How do I export my Canvas course for archiving?

Answer

Instructors can export a Canvas course to create and keep a backup copy, which can then be stored in Google Drive or on a local computer. Exporting Canvas courses ensures that instructors maintain access to course content, while also allowing TCNJ to optimize the efficiency of our digital learning environment and data storage.

Export a Canvas Course

  1. Log in to Canvas.
  2. Select an individual Canvas course from your Dashboard or "All Courses" menu.
  3. Navigate to "Settings" in the course navigation menu.
  4. Click "Export Course Content" in the sidebar menu.
  5. Under "Export Type," select "Course."
    • If you previously exported the course, Canvas displays the date and time of prior exports under "Content Exports." Content export files can be downloaded for up to 30 days before a new export is required.
  6. Click "Create Export."
  7. Click "New Export" to download the export to your browser or local computer.
