How do I collect Attendance in Canvas?

Canvas enables you to collect attendance using the Roll Call Attendance tool.

Enable Attendance in Course Navigation

  1. Log in to Canvas.
  2. Navigate to your course.
  3. Select "Settings" from the course navigation menu.
  4. Click "Navigation" from the list of settings tabs.
  5. For "Attendance," click the three dots and select "Enable."
    • Optional: Use the "Move" button or the drag-and-drop option to organize where Kaltura Media Gallery appears in the course navigation menu.
  6. Click "Save."

Use Roll Call Attendance Tool

  1. Log in to Canvas.
  2. Navigate to "Attendance" in the course navigation menu.
  3. Take attendance by marking students as present, absent, or late.

Using the Attendance tool, Canvas automatically creates a Roll Call Attendance assignment in the gradebook worth 100 points. To avoid this, go to Roll Call Settings and check off "Do not count attendance toward final grade." This setting allows you to keep a record of attendance without an associated assignment.
