How can I use the Test Student as an Instructor?
Answer
Instructors can view a course the same way students can using the Student View feature. When you use this view for the first time, Canvas creates a Test Student in your course, which you can also enable in your course settings. At the top of relevant Canvas blocks, click the "View as Student" button to activate and enable the Test Student, which then brings you into Student View.
Student View
Using Student View, you can see the course, post and reply to discussions, and submit assignments. Important: As Canvas notes, "Attendance, conferences, conversations inbox, collaborations, differentiated assignments, external apps, groups, peer reviews, and profiles do not work for the Test Student. You will see only what you, as the instructor, allow your students to see."
Reset Student View: Reset student view clears all activities from the Test Student that do not include student interaction (e.g., a discussion reply from the Test Student).
Leave Student View: Leave student view lets you return to the course in instructor view while maintaining any previous interactions through the Test Student account.
Test Student Notes
- Each course has its own Test Student account. If you go to a new course and don't see the test student, you must go into Student View to enable it.
- You must publish an assignment or discussion to preview it as the Test Student.
