How can I view my instructor's feedback for my assignment?

Answer

Instructor feedback is an essential part of learning. Many instructors will provide feedback on student assignments using either comments, rubrics, or annotations on the submitted document. If you aren't sure how your instructor intends to provide feedback, ask them so you know exactly where to look for assignment feedback.

Accessing Grade Information

As a student, there are multiple ways to access your instructor's feedback. Using the Canvas Grades page, for example, allows you to see your score, the total point value of the assignment, and scoring details, such as comments or a rubric. If your instructor adds comments to your assignment, the assignment displays a Comment icon, typically a blue dot indicating unread comments.

Accessing Submission-Specific Feedback

You can access comment-based feedback through the Grades section.

  • To view comments from your instructor, click the Comment icon.

  • To view rubric results input by your instructor, click on the Rubric icon. If your instructor leaves comments in the rubric, those appear under the rubric criteria. This text only displays if your instructor added handwritten comments to the rubric.

  • To view annotations from your instructor, click the assignment title and then the View Feedback link. If you download the annotated document, we recommend viewing it in Adobe Acrobat Reader, rather than a web browser.

If you have trouble viewing feedback after following the above directions, contact your instructor for assistance.
