Why can't I see my courses? (for students)

I'm enrolled in a course, but can't see it in my list of courses in Canvas.

Answer

There are several reasons why this may be the case. For most cases, the solution is to communicate with your instructor.

  1. Before the semester: The course start date has not been reached. Courses are not available until their start date, which by default is set at the start of the term. Some professors may choose to publish their courses early, which is why you may have access to some courses and not others.

  2. Before the semester: The instructor has not published the course yet.

  3. Before and during the semester: You just enrolled in the course. It takes a day between enrolling in a course in PAWS and when it appears in your Canvas account, which usually happens overnight.

  4. At the end of the semester: The course has migrated from your Dashboard to the Courses button in the Global Navigation menu. This shift happens after the semester ends, and courses become a "past" course. Unless an instructor changes the course end date, this typically occurs on the final day of classes. "Future" courses—courses whose term has not yet started—are also in Courses, and will list whether they are published or not.
